So the time has come again, and I have rebuilt the entire site again.  New layout, new bones, damn near new everything short of the content.  With that said though, I am going to do some updates in that area as well.

I’ve also completely reconstructed my DVD List site, complete with brand new database and PHP backing.  All dynamic, baby.  I think the next step now, is to redo the layout for that site as well, as I’m never happy with anything for very long.

Every time I close my eyes

So there are a lot of movies coming out over the next few weeks, and oh boy I can’t wait!  It looks like there should be a few of them that have the potential to be pretty decent, or even (dare I say) good.  Lets count the number of remakes, shall we?  Sigh.

Then you’ve got all the releases coming on the home front for the holidays, can anyone say The Dark Knight? There is always a minimum of, at the very least, ten DVDs I would really like to purchase at any given time.  Maybe someday I will get them all, maybe not, who knows.

But that’s all to come, and this is now, and right now we have a great many movies that have come out over the last year that we can talk shit about, so lets do that, right?  Right!  Well then lets get started…

I’ve seen a great many films this year so i doubt I will be able to hit them all equally, but I will do my best to get as many as I can.  Also from now on I will attempt to do a more monthly coverage of these things we call “entertaining cinema” as well as TV rap-ups as well… Maybe… Yeah.

I’ll start from latest and go backwards, I feel that will be the best way to go about this.  So to start off we have Quantum of Solace, the follow-up to Casino Royale in the newly revamped James Bond 007 franchise.  This movie picks up, literally, within minutes of the end of the last film, and it starts quickly.  The film wastes no time jumping right into the action, and for the most part keeps it going pretty well throughout the film.  I enjoyed this, as it all seemed to be very well done, it was very entertaining and drew me into it as a result.  With that said, I did find myself missing some of the more subtle and cerebral moments from the earlier films in the franchise.  It was always fun watching Bond get the upper had on his enemies by merely out-witting them.  Not to say that there is none of that in this film, as there are some moments that are just fun, but they have clearly decided to go with a more action-oriented style of story telling for these new films.

Personally I wasn’t very excited about the casting of Olga Kurylenko as the female lead, or “Bond Girl” if you must, as I just wasn’t that fond of her.  Don’t get me wrong, she is a gorgeous woman, I just didn’t think she was a good choice for the film, but I will admit when I am wrong, and I was.  Olga did a great job in this part and her interaction with Daniel Craig as Bond was, in my opinion, great as well.  I still feel Daniel Craig is a good, if not a traditional, Bond.  I understand the direction these last two films are going with, and he plays the part well with that.  All in all, I enjoyed Quantum of Solace, even though it was only a mere 106 minutes running time.  For those who are fans of the Bond films, this one is a definite go and see, especially in theaters, but I am always an avid “go to the theaters” guy, it’s just the best way to enjoy bigger movies.

Alright, that was longer than I was expecting so I’m only going to do one other movie right now, and to mix it up a bit, that movie will be Role Models.  To make it short, I really loved this film.  It was just great.  Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd are amazing in this movie.  They work perfectly together and separately, as well as with the kids.  The chemistry between the actors in this film is very good, they all really feel like they’ve known each other for a long time and get along great, or horribly, depending on what is called for.  I would recommend this movie to anyone who really enjoys a good, dirty and at times, blue comedy.  Though it is definitely not for a younger audience.

I feel as though I should throw something in about a movie I saw that I didn’t really care for, since I basically just made mad-love to the two films I just wrote about, but I think this post has gone on long enough, and I will try and throw something negative in about something else, in the weeks to come.

I was wrong about you.

I have once again retooled the (blog portion of) the site, again. There were some things that were simply annoying me just too much. I also wanted to get this part of the site working better in preparation of some things I had been wanting to do. Right now I am looking at trying to do something of a regular blog posting about various topics, mostly coming from whatever strikes me at any given time. Hopefully with practice I will nail it down to something a little more specific over the long term.

With that said, I will… Not begin. Not yet. Right now I’m just making a general post. Speaking of making a general post, I have decided to discontinue the use of my DeadJournal in favor of just using this site. I mean what’s the point in having this one finally working all spiffy and the way I want it to when I don’t even use it? And as far as the DJ is concerned, I’ve really not been keeping up with it anyway, so I figured it was just a good time to move on. So with that in mind, moving on…

Last week I went back home to Ohio to take care of some things, mainly a doctors appointment and to VOTE. So I left Indy Friday night to head back to… (Walks away to blow out a candle) …Okay sorry about that, anyway, I got back to Ohio Friday night (Halloween, woohoo!) and took it easy for the weekend, though I was dismayed to find that Ohio State was on a bye-week, bah! So Monday I got up about 11am and got ready for my doctors appointment at three o’clock. The point of this appointment was to get a blood test, and I was nervous about doing it, so Annie came along with me, mainly because she talked me into it. That all went well, even the needle part. (>_<) No worries though, the test came back negative, I’m not pregnant! Seriously though, everything came back normal, I’m good and healthy. It was overall a pleasant trip to the doctor’s office, with exception to some of the ‘discussion’ Annie and I had.

After Monday comes Tuesday! Right? Got up early Tuesday morning, and yes I realize that 11am is usually considered early for me, but mother and I got up and went to vote at about six o’clock, that was fun! It actually wasn’t that bad, it only took about an hour. The rest of the day was spent waiting and the night was spent watching. Luckily it was a short night, and by eleven o’clock that night, we had our first black President of the US.
The rest of the week was spent working on various school work and just relaxing. Friday afternoon one of the guys mom used to work with came over and I helped him build a nice new big shelf in the garage. Saturday I got up and watch OSU trample Northwestern, again, then packed up the car and drove out to Kaska’s for the day/night. It was a nice time, except for Iowa being dick-heads and ruining it for the rest if the BigTen, but I digress. Sunday we watched football, in-between video games, and then I departed for Indy once again. That about brings me up to date.

In other news, I’ve started working a, soon to be paid hopefully, intern position at a local web design firm here in town. I’ve worked about four days, and so far I really enjoy it. It really helps having great people to work with as well. Oh, I also went to see Role Models (CLICK) last Friday night. Great movie, VERY funny, recommended.

The Bible is a great story

So this quarter at school I’ve got three different scripting classes; JavaScript, ActionsScript 3.0, and PHP/MySQL.  This will be a fun eleven weeks, I can see it now.  To be completely honest though, I’m happy to be in these courses, they’re all classes I’ve been wanting for a long time.

On that note, here are a couple of little things I’ve done in the PHP class so far:

I’ve known for some time now that my Online Portfolio site was outdated in both its content and layout, but had been taking my time coming up with something new for it, or just updating it in general.

One reason I was so slow on updating the content was because of the way in which I designed the gallery.  I still like the idea that I originally came up with, it was just not practical for easy updates.

With that in mind I had been trying to come up with a new design for my portfolio site, both for the layout and image gallery.  I came up with a few different of ideas and tried a couple of them out to decide what would look best, while at the same time, be able to build and make function correctly.  I came down to two main ideas, and worked on getting both of them to work the way I wanted.  My original idea to use Lightbox, with some slight modifications, together with an interesting sliding-gallery script that I liked gave me quite a bit of trouble for a while, and in the end, was only about half way completed.  I never got to the point of adding in the sliding-gallery in, but I did finally correct the problems in the Lightbox modifications[?] so that I got it working the way I was hoping.

The next idea I had was not for the gallery itself, whereas the Lightbox mods mentioned above were for the display of the actual images.  This idea didn’t use JavaScript at all, it was in-fact all CSS based, so this one I was able to create from scratch myself.  The main idea for the new gallery display was that of something similar to framed pictures on a shelf, with an emphasis on the highlighted (by mouse) image.

Once I came up with an idea I was happy with for the layout of the site, I realized that combining both the ideas mentioned above would be the best choice to use with the new design for the portfolio site.  With all that said, I did, after a long dry period for the site, complete and upload the new site yesturday, and it is now fully online and operating correctly, for the most part, in all major browsers.  The only problem I’ve run into is with Internet Explorer, big surprise there, right?  Even still, it looks and runs fine, so there really isn’t any problem with the site’s usability.  Everything is on there that I wanted to include, and I will be added new items that I have done as more are made.
